Lisbon at a Glance

A city that has everything and no one sees it. A city that has a full time job and doesn’t sleep. A city that is a home to and the life of so many people. A city, a passionate city that is so near us that usually we only see it as the place where we live, work, go shopping, study and for the foreigners a touristic destination.
Those are the real and daily appreciators of the streets, monuments, gastronomy and welcoming people that Lisbon has. We probably pass by all these things daily, all the marvels that are at the distance of one glance, but we ignore them because we are late, tired, occupied, or simply because we don’t want do know (most people still pass by foreigners taking pictures of what to us is “normal stuff”: like a building or the ground and we laugh, why? Probably because the Portuguese are not aware of the beautiful country they live in. Too proud to stop, see and learn something that has been there for him all that time and always ignored).

In each Lisbon street corner, we can find different wonders that are worth seeing, and is not necessary to make a big effort, it’s clearer than it seems.

-Streets...where every wall and metre of ground are older than us all together, where even the noise is characteristic;

-Parks...hidden probably, from the confusion and pollution of the centre of the city, but they are there and its wonderful to find one. You can go to Gulbenkian’s park right near to the faculty;

-Monuments...every inch of Lisbon is a monument;

-Gastronomy...so many delightful tastes to explore. You can start with “Pasteis de Belém”, they are to good to be true;

-History...it goes from the street seller to the greatest monument in Lisbon;

-Traditional stone-paved roadway...Lisbon is a city where looking down is a cultural experience;

-Sights...the best panorama in Lisbon is saw from the Castelo de São Jorge, it’s amazing;

-Chestnut sellers...in the autumn the streets are full with them, getting more expensive each year… but it tastes real good;

-Public transportation...independently of the reasons, its always nice to do a tour in an “eléctrico”(streetcar) or in a elevator;

-Street shows...in Rua Augusta is common to see street shows, is very nice to stop and hear good music in the street, in the end of a fatiguing day;

-Nighlife...Lisbon has a great nocturn environment, at night Bairro Alto is the place do be.

Literally, sanctuaries that are waiting to be loved by us, so it’s worth enjoying it while we still have that possibility. We are very lucky to have such great marvels like we do, so near and so unexplored.

The photos we present are just a tiny sample of those little things ...that are every day at a glance!

Maybe they have sharpened your curiosity, and you perchance will see «our» city with different eyes from now on! We dare you to go out there and look for what is begging to be found.

Have a nice day!
