Hi class! My name is Costa, Tiago Costa.
Or, for those of you who are Japanese, Costa-San. I really enjoyed reading the posts of you all, and there are serious grammar errors! Not kidding… =) I identify with some of you rock lovers, I would add the blues, some jazz, and folk man! Bob Dylan is back in 2006 with “Modern Times”, old-style blues and folk and rock, still around for the music.
“I been walkin’ 40 miles of bad road
If the Bible is right, the world will explode
I been tryin’ to get as far away from myself as I can”
from Things Have Changed, 2000
I recently discovered American singer/songwriter Cat Power, and she’s blowing my mind. She’s not just gorgeous (google it), she sings powerfully, even when it’s quiet. And she writes this strange, awkward lyrics.
Since I was fourteen I’ve been a fan of The Doors, and Jim Morrison, the lead singer, was a great poet of Freedom and the pleasures of the Night and of the Unknown. Also Janis Joplin helped to build my loving picture of the Sixties. Seventies was heavy-drugs, Eighties was decadent, Nineties was depressing; except for rare visionary artists, visionary when all seems so obvious, out in the open, ‘bigbrothered’ all over in our dying post-modern times.
We should colonize Mars! The Robotics and the Space Race is fast developing, a new millennium starting. What about the human heart? Do you feel it’s as sophisticated as this new-age therapies that relax you? We’re living the same Classical tragedies, only with fancy media technology and industrial materials.
I read as much as I can. Good literature can tell us so much about our imagination. I finished reading Patricia Highsmith’s The Price of Salt, one of the first novels with lesbian characters back in conservative 1952, U.S. This American writer is also the author of The Talented Mr. Ripley, which has been recently adapted to film.
Love all the literary work of the Beat Generation back in 40’s, 50’s, U.S. again… yes, I’d move to L.A., definitely. Craziest film I’ve ever seen, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Sorry about the photo, ain’t got any normal and pretty. On this one, I was trying to be a rooster. I’m 22 years old and this is the second year I’m studying in this University in the LLC, Portuguese and English Studies bag of classes. I’m enjoying it very much, because it’s about getting critical about the arts and the world, and learn and share knowledge. I like Portugal (Fernando Pessoa is our biggest poet) but sometimes it gets sad and narrow minded, so I’m balancing it with the assertive English language, culture and literature. Never been abroad except for Spain, but in my mind I have travelled a bit further.
Unfortunately, I’m addicted to cigarettes, and others substances, like ketchup and tangerine juice.
Anyway, now you’ll all want to talk to me and ask stuff, you can beep my inexistent manager at 01001BAIXA-DA-BANHEIRA, and schedule an interview.
Thanks for your time. Now, go misbehave. See you in class. Be cool danone
